2 militants killed, 50 kg explosive and 3 BSF men injured in J

Srinagar, May 31 (UNI) Two militants were killed and as many were arrested three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, a police spokesman said.

Security forces recovered 50 kg explosive, three magazines and 30 rounds of ammunition at Khushroo in Anantnag district. However, no one was arrested.

He said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and 5 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at Nagbarian, Tral, about 40 km from here this afternoon following a tip off that militants were hiding there.

However,when the security forces were about to storm a particular area, militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the encounter two militants were killed. Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

Official sources said militants today triggered a powerful IED on the roadside at Chenkipora, Sopore, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla when a vehicle of 51 batallion BSF was passing the area.

They said three BSF personnel were injured and the vehicle was badly damaged in the blast.

The blast was so powerful that its sound was heard in the five km area.

People at Bandipora took to streets in protest against firing by BSF in which one civilian Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat was injured.

However, a police spokesman said that militants shot at and wounded Bhat. He has been hospitalised.

Spokesman said security forces arrested two HM militants during a search operation at Behota in Doda district of Jammu region today.

One pistol, seven rounds of ammunition, two hand grenades and one mobile phone were recovered from their possession.

He said an encounter took place at Lakhandar Anguth this morning between militants and security forces. However, the militants managed to escape. Later, security forces recovered one IED, 93 rounds of ammunition and other arms and ammunition.
