Suggestions invited on Gram Nyayalaya Bill 2007
New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) The Parliamentary Committee for examining 'The Gram Nyayalaya Bill, 2007, has invited views from the public/ organisations interested in improving judiciary in the rural areas.
The Bill seeks to provide for establishment of the Gram Nyayalayas for the purposes of providing access to justice, both civil and criminal, to the citizens at the grassroots level and to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by the reasons of social, economic or other limitations.
The Gram Nyayalayas Bill, 2007, introduced in the Rajya Sabha on the May 15 this year and pending therein, has been referred to the Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, headed by Dr. E. M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, M.P., for examination and report.
Those desirous of submitting memoranda to the Committee may send two copies (either in English or Hindi) thereof to Ms Sasilekha Nair, Under Secretary, Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
The memorandum, which might be submitted to the Committee, would form part of the records of the committee. It would be treated as confidential and would not be circulated to anyone, as any act contrary thereto would constitute a breach of privilege of the Committee.
The Bill was published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 2, dated May 15, 2007. Its copies can be had on written request to the above-mentioned Officer or can be down loaded from the official web-site of the Rajya Sabha (http://rajyasabha.nic.in), under the caption 'Bills with the Committee'.
