IT industry, NASSCOM may float pircay regulatory body:Sandeep

Kolkata, May 30 (UNI) IT industry, in association with NASSCOM, is mooting the possibility of creating a piracy regulatory body, Adobe Systems, India Country Sales Manager Sandeep Mehrotra said here today.

''Software piracy rate in India was around 70 to 80 per cent in 2006 and that needs to be contained,'' he said adding that against one software that Adobe sells, 8 to 9 are pirated.

''We need to control this phenomenon and the government should strengthen the regulatory framework to stop this, Mr Mehrotra said while speaking to mediapersons at a press conference.

He said the rate of piracy is even higher China than India.

''In order to stop piracy, we have introduced special packages for the educational institutes, which is 60-70 per cent lesser than prevailing market rate,'' he said.

The company has also introduced transaction licencing programmes for the customers and contractual licencing programmes, which would help the customers to buy the original softwares at a much lesser rates.

More and more corporate companies were now buying original softwares and were aware of anti-piracy.

Adobe India has introduced three product lines of Adobe Creative Suite, which include Design Premium, Web Premium among others.
