File report on relief to quake victims: J

Srinagar, May 30 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Commission (JKHRC) has directed the authorities to file a report about less relief paid to 75 families affected by October 8, 2005 earthquake.

The commission also directed the police to submit a report about the death of a woman allegedly due to negligence of doctors.

Official sources said that 75 earthquake victims of Malik and Sheikh Mohalla in Uri have filed petitions before the commission alleging that they were paid less compensation by the authorities.

They said Sub-District Magistrate and other revenue officials of Uri after their inspection of damaged houses, had recommended Rs one lac each to 270 affected families.

However, the authorities paid Rs one lac each to only 195 families while the others were given Rs 30,000 each.

The SHR commission admitting the petition directed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, and the relief commissioner concerned to file the report within four weeks.

The commission hearing another petition also directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Crime) to investigate allegation that one Shamima, daughter of late Abdul Razak had died due to negligence of doctors.

The Commission directed the SSP Crime Branch to submit report in the case by July 4.
