Congress demands judicial inquiry in Bundi, Dausa firing
Jaipur, May 30 (UNI) The Congress today demanded a judicial inquiry into the police firing in Bundi and Dausa districts of Rajasthan during protests and chakka jams by the agitating Gujjar community who are seeking inclusion in the ST list.
The three-member party central team, sent by party President Sonia Gandhi to take stock of the situation in violence-hit areas, also urged Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to resign for her '' failure'' in maintaining law and order in the state.
Talking to mediapersons here, team leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi said the present Raje government had '' totally failed'' to keep its commitments to provide the Gujjar community with ST status and provide governance and therefore, the chief minister should resign.
He said a judicial probe should be ordered in the police firing yesterday in which 14 people were killed.
He said this was not the first instance of police firing under the present regime and over a dozen such incidents had taken place earlier during the term of the present government in the state.
The team comprising party leaders- Satyavrat Chaturvedi, Mrs Krishna Tirath and KC Lenka accompanied by Congress state president BD Kalla and others, arrived this morning from New Delhi.
The team was proceeding for violence hit areas of Dausa district, but they were prevented and detained in Dausa.
Later, they were released by the police to return to Jaipur.
The team later visited the injured at SMS Hospital here, who were referred here from Dausa and Bundi.
