Vadodara, May 30 (UNI) Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Commissioner of Gram Vikas (CGV) have set up Gujarat's first gobar gas plant, costing Rs 10 lakh, with public participation from tribals of Kanas village of Chhota-Udaipur taluka of the district.

The plant will provide bio-gas to 40 tribal families, who in turn will supply 40 kg of gobar to the plant.

The CGV and ADB officials told reporters here today that under the scheme each beneficiary family will get gobar gas for a month at a cost of Rs 200, while they will be given Rs 240 per month for the gobar they are supplying to the plant.

They said the plant is expected to produce 300 tonnes of bio-fertilizers per month. This bio-fertilizer will be given to participatory families at a cost of Rs 0.50 per kg, while others will get it for rupee one per kg.

The entire network of collecting gobar from door-to-door through tractors and supply of gas and bio-fertilizer will be done by newly-formed Vivekananda Gobar Co-operative Bank in the village.

The plant will benefit tribals in two-ways. Firstly, they will get environment-friendly gas and it will also prevent the cutting of trees for cooking and other purposes done by them for energy consumption, the officials added.

The plant will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Narendra Modi on June 1.
