YSR sceptical about MK's suggestion to link peninsular rivers
New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was sceptical about the suggestion of his Tamil Nadu counterpart M Karunanidhi at the National Development Council forum asking the Centre to commence the linking of peninsular rivers.
Dr Reddy told newspersons that the suggestion did not seem practical as there were shortage of water in the basins of southern rivers and would be dry during summer season.
Unless Himalayan rivers were also linked, the river linking in the peninsula would be meanigless, he observed.
He said the Andhra Pradesh had explained in detail the programmes taken up for irrigating in the state ever since the Congress government had assumed power three years ago.
