Woman from West Bengal among 7 killed, 10 injured in J and K
Srinagar, May 29 (UNI) Seven persons, including a woman from West Bengal, were killed and ten others wounded in different accidents in Jammu and Kashmir today.
A police spokesman said a tipper, carrying labourers, skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Tansay Chesol in Leh this afternoon.
He said three labourers were killed on the spot and 11 others were wounded.
The injured were admitted in Sonam Nurboo Hospital, Leh, where one of the injured died.
The condition of some injured is stated to be critical, he added.
The official said one Akhter Ahmad Reshi committed suicide when he jumped in the Jhelum river at Amira Kadal early this morning.
A massive operation was launched to fish out his body.
It was however, not known why the youth took this extreme step.
He said a woman identified as Masooma, daughter of Latief Malla, a resident of West Bengal, committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at Natipora this morning. She was admitted to a hospital where she died.
One Mohammad Ismail Rather was killed when he was hit by a speedy truck at Bijbehara in south Kashmir today.
An army vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep nullah at Jawahar tunnel. However, no one was injured.
