Union government provides succour to sugar cane farmers
Bangalore, May 29 (UNI) Providing succor to the sugar cane farmers, reeling under the glut in production and no buyers for their produce, Union Government would spend nearly Rs 100 crore during the next three years by implementing Special Livestock and Fisheries package in six districts of Karnataka.
The government had identified 31 districts in four states of Andhra Pradesh (16), Maharashtra (6), Karnataka (6) and Kerala (3).
These were the districts that reported high incidents of farmers suicides.
The special package was now available to mitigate the distress conditions of farmers in these districts, a release from Principal Secretary of Karnataka Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department said.
Accordingly the Special Livestock and Fisheries package had been announced in six districts of Belgaum, Hassan, Chitradurga, Chikmagalur, Kodagu and Shimoga.
District implementation committees, which includes Deputy Commissioner, CEO of the ZP, District Lead Bank Manager and others would oversee the selection of beneficiaries. The implementation of livestock project had been entrusted to Karnataka Milk Federation, the release added.
