Two former Bangladesh MP in custody in Tripura
Agartala, May 29:Two top Awami League partymen from Bangladesh, who were detained by the Border Security Force(BSF) at Sonamura border of Tripura yesterday, will be produced before court today.
Police sources here today said the BSF had detained the two politicians yesterday and later handed them over to police yesterday.
Meanwhile, the matter has already been informed to the Union Home Ministry, police added.
Acting on a tip off, the BSF had conducted a search in Kalsimura area along western border of the state and detained Mijanur Rahaman and Miltan Rahaman from the house of Indian national Hanif Mia.
BSF officials said both of them were former members of Bangladesh Parliament and now Mijanur is holding the post of ""Organising Secretary"" of Awami League and Miltan is looking after the Awami League Youth Front.
During interrogation, they confessed that following extensive search operations carried out by the caretaker administration in Bangladesh, they fled from the country and took shelter in India, BSF officials here said, adding that reportedly Bangladesh anti-corruption bureau was also looking for them.
Sources said, a number of top Bangladesh politicians belong to both Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party have taken shelter in bordering villages of Tripura after caretaker government assumed office last month.
""BSF has already been put on high alert following political development in Bangladesh and they are well equipped to foil any intrude bid,"" said a senior official of state home department.
