Six panchaloha idols excavated from Iravatheswara temple

Thanjavur, May 29 (UNI) Six ancient panchaloha idols were excavated from the Iravatheswara Swamy temple at Dharasuram near Kumbakonam in this district.

The two-feet idols were found by workers engaged in digging works to reconstruct the Thirmathil wall of the 12th century temple built by Raja Raja II yesterday.

They were brought and kept at the office of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) situated inside the Big temple here.

While five idols were goddess Parvathi, the other idol was that of Thirugnanasambandar, ASI sources said.
