Punjab Mandi Board approves direct payment to farmers

Moga, May 29 (UNI) The Punjab Mandi Board has given its approval to the decision of the Punjab government directing the procurement agencies to make direct payments to the farmers for their produce.

This approval was granted to prevent the farmers being 'exploited' at the hands of commission agents, who normally delay making payments.

This was announced by Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal at Kaliawala village in the district today.

Mr Lakhowal disclosed that the Directors of the Mandi Board had also approved the proposal for providing record books to farmers for maintaining a record of the sale of their produce, loans taken or repaid to financial institutions or to commission agents.

Mr Lakhowal assured the farmers that soon after the announcement of the new roads construction policy of the government, Mandi Board would start construction of link roads.
