KPTCL apologises to KERC on tariff

Bangalore, May 29 (UNI) Acting quickly state owned Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) today apologised to the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission for its arbitrary decision to hike Transmission Tariff from 19 praise to 26 paise without taking permission from the concerning authorities.

KPTCL Managing Director Bharatlal Meena, during his submission before the KERC in response to the objections raised by various organisations and individuals against KPTCL's Estimate Revenue Charges (CRC) for 2008-10, apologised for its earlier decision for increased transmission tariff to 26 paise.

While defending KPTCL for raising transmission had made remark that the organisation had no other way but to increase tariff to run the show after instructed by the State Government.

Taking serious note of the remark by Mr Meena the KERC Chairman Mr K P Pandey had said that the KPTCL or any other agencies including State government has no power to increase the transmission tariff. He said that the matter was of judicial nature and it should be done through judicial manner itself.

The KERC Chairman reminded KPTCL managing director that the Applette Tribunal, while deciding the matter on the issue had directed to go before the KERC which is the sole authority to either reduce or hike the transmission tariff rate and KPTCL's decision to ignore the KERC can not be tolerated.

It may be recalled that the earlier the KERC had disallowed the appeal of KPTCL to increase the transmission tariff rate from 19 paise to 26 paise to be collected from all the Electricity Supply Companies in the state.

The KPTCL had taken the matter to Apellete Tribunal while disposing the matter had opined that KERC can look into the issue.

However KPTCL instead of approaching KERC had arbitrarily increased the transmission tariff and started collected from the ESCOM's. The increased tariff price has resulted into additional collection of rupees 629 crore for KPTCL. However thanks to strong objection of the consumer bodies and intervention of KERC the KPTCL had stopped from collecting additional rate.

Earlier the KPTCL Managing Director had refuted all the objections raised during the public hearing on its ERC proposals and sought KERC not to take cognisence of it.
