Srinagar, May 29 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today filed a charge-sheet against the then chief education officer (CEO) in the illegal appointments case.

A vigilance spokesman said the charge-sheet was produced in the court of the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar.

The charge-sheet was filed against Abdul Majid Bhat, the then CEO Pulwama, Habibullah Malik, the then head assistant, Sonaullah Khan, the then head assistant, Ghulam Hassan Ganai, the then junior statistical assistant, Abdul Rehman Khan, the then head assistant, Mohammad Ramzan, the then head assistant, Mohammad Aslam Malik, the then senior assistant (all in the CEO office) and Mohammad Sultan Ganai, the then CEO Pulwama.

He said the case was registered with the crime branch on March 2, 1998, to investigate the alleged illegal appointments made in the Education Department, Pulwama, during 1995-96 and 1998.

The Crime Branch, Kashmir, initially investigated the case, which was later transferred to the Vigilance Organisation by the state government on February 21, 2000, the spokesman said.

Investigations established that Bhat and Ganai had made 23 and one illegal appointments respectively in connivance with their staff, he added.
