Heat wave claims three lives as mercury soares high
Jamshedpur, May 29 (UNI) Continuous heat-wave condition in most parts of Jharkhand claimed three lives during the past 48 hours in and around the steel city here.
The deceased included an engineer from Delhi.
The mercury soared beyond 40 degrees Celsius for the last few days.
May 27 was registered as the hottest day of this season with temparature shooting up to 44.7 degrees Celsius.
The temparature, however, came down slightly yesterday recording 42.5 degrees Celsius.
The engineer of a private company in Delhi, who became the victim of the unbearable heat and fell sick at Bistupur area. He was rushed to the Tata Main Hospital in a serious condition but could not cope with nature's fury.
A worker of a private company at Adityapur also became senseless due to scorching heat yesterday. He was admitted to MGM government hospital here but died later.
Another 75-year-old man also died after experiencing a sunstroke at Uldih area here yesterday.
More victims were being admitted to the government and private hospitals as the number increased every day, hospital sources said.
Normal life was thrown out of gear due to the sweltering heat as roads remained deserted during the day with people preferring to stay indoors.
Power and water crisis in many areas here also added woes to the citizens.
The weather office predicted that the heat wave condition would continue for few more days in the Chhotanagpur region of the state.
