HC declines to vacate order on medium of instruction in schools
Bangalore, May 29 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today declined to vacate an interim order on the row between the State Government and the 2,000-odd schools over the medium of instruction.
When the interlocutory application filed by the State Government in connection with the petition by the Karnataka Unaided Schools Management Association came up for hearing, Mr Justice Rama Mohan Reddy refused to vacate the interim order.
The court had stayed the Government Order, imposing fines ranging from Rs one lakh to Rs 25,000 on the schools, depending on the area, or face derecognition. However, it had also ordered maintenance of status quo to admit children only in the medium in which the schools had taken permission to run the schools (Kannada).
The court directed the petitioner to file affidavits, giving an undertaking that they would not violate the condition regarding the medium of instruction imposed by the Government at the time of granting recognition. The court adjourned the matter to Thursday for filing the affidavits.
