Free computer education in Haryana schools

Chandigarh, May 29 (UNI) In a major step towards providing free computer education to students of the Government Senior Secondary Schools in Haryana, the Directorate of School Education has signed an agreement with the Delhi-based Educomp Solutions Ltd.

Under the agreement, the hardware infrastructure would be provided by the Government and teaching facilities as well as software and courseware would be provided by the service provider, an official spokesman said today.

He said Educomp Solutions had been allotted 12 districts of Haryana to provide their services.

In a departure from the earlier practice of charging fees from the students wishing to enrol for computer education, no fee would be charged from the students now, he added.

Director School Education and Special Secretary Education Anil Malik signed on behalf of the Directorate of School Education while Vice-President, Information and Communication Technology Division of Educomp Solutions V K Malik signed on behalf of his company.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Education) R S Gujral here.
