For sustenance of life, protect water bodies: J
Srinagar, May 29 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Public Health Engineering Mohammad Dilawar Mir has said that sustenance of life entirely depended upon conservation and protection of water bodies.
Speaking at the inaugural session of seminar on ''People's participation in conservation of water resources and preservation of its quality'' here, the Minister said yesterday that ''human greed has ruthlessly spoiled the green cover and water resources.'' If this practice is not stopped forthwith, the life on earth would be miserable and difficult, he warned.
The seminar was organized by the Institution of Engineers (India) J&K State Centre.
The Minister called for launching a vigorous campaign to educate people about their social obligation to remove latrines and other encroachments raised on the banks of rivers and water bodies.
He urged for encouraging community participation for this purpose.
Mr Mir assured full government support and assistance for various water conservation programmes and hoped that the recommendations of the seminar would prove beneficial in conserving the water resources in the state.
