CPM demands CBI inquiry, Rs 5 lakh compensation to next of kin
Jaipur, May 29 (UNI) The CPI(M) today demanded a CBI inquiry into the police firing on agitating members of Gujjar community in Rajasthan, in which at least five people were killed today.
Holding the Vasundhara Raje government responsible for the violent situation, party's state secretariat also demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and a job to next of kin of the deceased.
''The BJP government in the state has to apportion the blame for the killing of over a dozen people in police firing during the Gujjar agitation and subsequent police firing,'' a party release said.
Members of Gujjar community blocked a national highway and staged chakka jam agitation to press for their inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.
After the Vasundhara Raje-led government assumed power in the state, this is the for the 25th time that the police resorted to firing to quell agitating mobs killing over 27 people till now, the release added.
It said the ''feudalist streak'' of the BJP government is reflected in their ruthless suppression on peoples movements.
The party alleged that the Chief Minister was responsible for encouraging casteist forces in the state. It pointed out that during the last Assembly elections the Chief Minister had promised that the Gujjar community would be included in the ST list for reservations.
