Conjoined twins separated in Chhattisgarh
Raipur, May 29 (UNI) Surgeons at a government hospital in Chhattisgarh have successfully separated conjoined twin boys, in a complex operation that lasted more than eight hours.
Ten-month-old Ram and Laxman were joined from the stomach and also shared a liver. They suffered hernia since birth. The medical team, comprising four senior physicians and three anaesthetists, was led by Head of the Department (Surgery) Ashok Sharma and began operating on the pair early today at Ambedkar Hospital attached to the Gandhi Medical College.
''The surgery was successful. Both of them will be under observation. The twins are expected to remain in hospital for several weeks,'' a spokesman said.
''I am relaxed,'' said the infants' mother Premvati Bai Kol.
''They have got a new lease of life. I thank the doctors and others who gave all support to my family,'' said the twins' father Ram Lakhan.
