Class 10 pass percentage 84.44, girls outshine boys yet again

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) The overall pass percentage for CBSE class ten examination results this year again showed an upward trend at 84.44 per cent, a whopping increase of 7.28 per cent from last year, with girls one more outshining boys though only by less than a per cent.

Announcing the results, CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly said the overall pass percentage for girls was 84.72 per cent while the boys lagged behind by a slim margin at 84.24 per cent.

''The girls have done exceptionally well this year also... as was the case with class 12 examinations,'' he added.

Among the six regions, Ajmer bagged the top honours with over all percentage of 93.87 per cent followed by Chennai at a close second of 93.47 per cent. Delhi stood fifth at 77.18 per cent.

The third slot went to Panchkula (89.08), with Allahabad managing the fourth position and Guwahati the sixth.

More than 7,05,152 pupils, including 4,12,455 boys, appeared for the tenth class examinations, which was held from March 2 to 28. The figure recorded an increase of 8.11 per cent from 2006.

In Delhi, the pass percentage was 77.18 per cent against the previous year's 68.11 with the girls again maintaining a lead over their male counterpart at 77.68 per cent.

The over all percentage for boys was 76.68 per cent.
