Mysore, May 29 (UNI) The Mysore City Corporation has geared up to meet the city's drinking water crisis this summer with alternative sources if the level at Krishna Sagar Reservoir (KRS) across River Cauvery falls below the 67 feet.

The Corporation conducted a trial run of its jack well, about 20 km from the city, which can draw water from the river bed, in the presence of City Corporation Commissioner Dr K N Chandrasekar.

The Corporation completed the Rs 95 crore project on its own since the private engineering firms could not meet the deadline. The finances for the project was sanctioned fours years ago.

Mr Chandrasekar told reporters that the emergency jack well pump could draw about 20 MGD water from the river bed from a depth of 100 metres. He said the city needed 42.4 million gallons per day.

The Melapura II stage project which could supply another 11 MGD of water, which was recently commissioned by the Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, is under trial run.

Today's KRS level stood at 68.13 feet against the maximum level of 124.80 feet. With inflow of 151 cusecs and outflow was 252 cusecs, the level was 80.72 feet. Last year same day with inflow of 855 cusecs and outflow was 2995 cusecs respectively.

Onset of south east monsoon which set in a day early over Kerala has renewed hopes of the reservoir soon get better inflows.
