Two militants among 3 killed, major tragedy averted in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 28 (UNI) Two militants and a woman were killed while security forces averted a major tragedy and arrested a Jamait ultra in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

An official spokesman said militants shot at and critically wounded a woman Shaheena wife of Mohammad Yousuf at Bijbehara in south Kashmir district of Anantnag this morning. She was admitted to hospital where she died.

An police spokesman said a police party during routine patrolling detected a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants to target security forces at Waterkhani in the frontier district of Kupwara this morning.

People in the area were immediately shifted to safer places and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) summoned. It took about an hour to defuse the IED.

Security forces killed two militants in an encounter at Rangwara Chowkibal last night. Three A K rifles, six rifles, 160 rounds of amunition and one wireless set were recovered from the slain militants.

Police arrested a militant of Jamait-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) Ahsan Najar alias Imran along with some incriminating documents at Dharpora.
