Special court acquits Jagathy in Vithura sex case

Kottayam, May 28 (UNI) Noted actor Jagathy Sreekumar was today acquitted by a special court hearing the sensational Vithura sex scandal case.

Pronouncing the judgement, special court Judge P K Baburajan said the prosecution had failed to prove that the accused had sexually assaulted the victim without her consent.

He was the first accused in the case. The Judge also acquitted the second accused Sobhana, since the prosecution had failed to prove any evidence against her.

''Victory of truth'' and ''result of the prayer of those who love me'' were the reaction of Jagathy Sreekumar after hearing the judgement.

According to the prosecution, one Ajithabeegum had enticed the girl under the pretext of offering a job and handed her over to a flesh trade racket in Kochi on October 21, 1995. Suresh, leader of the Kochi based racket presented the girl to several persons.

Sobhana, the second accused, along with Manoharan allegedly gifted the girl to Jagathy Sreekumar in a hotel in Kochi on November seven, 1995.

The case involving Jagathy Sreekumar was taken up for trial on a directive of the Supreme Court.
