Rajasthan police fails to trace Orissa DGP Mohanty
Cuttack, May 28 (UNI) A team of Rajasthan Police, which arrived here to arrest Orissa Director General of Police (Home Guard) B B Mohanty for abetting his son Bitti Mohanty jump parole, failed to trace the senior IPS officer today as he was on medical leave.
The four-member team, led by DSP Mukund Kumar on their arrival went to Cuttack Superintendent of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi and sought his assistance to apprehend Mr Mohanty.
DSP Mukund Kumar, Lal Kothi Police station in-charge Virendra Jhakkar and two constables then went to the office of the DG where heavy police deployment was made and a horde of newspersons were present to witness the arrest of Mr Mohanty by the Rajasthan police.
But Mr Mahanty's private secretary Sashi Bhusan Mohanty told the team that the DG was on medical leave from May 27 to May 31 and he had no knowledge about his whereabouts. The DG had directly submitted his leave application to state Home Secretary Tarun Kanti Mishra, he said.
It was not immediately known whether the team would wait till Mr Mohanty joined his duty or search for his whereabouts either in hospitals or nursing homes in the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
