Visakhapatnam, May 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Consumer Affairs and Civil Supplies Minister K Venkatakrishna Reddy today urged Union Petroleum Minister Murali Deora to sanction more gas connections for the state to meet the growing demand.
Addressing a media conference here after regional conference of Consumer Affairs, Food and Civil Supplies Departments in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, East Godavari and Visakhapatnam Districts, Mr Reddy said the present supply of 71,891 metric tonnes of net weight gas per month had to be increased to meet the growing demand.
Admitting to lapses in delivery mechanism, the Minister said they would be rectified at the earliest. At present, there were 1.03 crore LPG connections in the state.
As many as 34.68 lakh consumers had double cylinders, 34.46 lakh single cylinder and 32.12 lakh 'Deepam' (subsidised LPG) connections in the state.
The state government would also set up call centres, the first of which would come up on June 11 at Hyderabad, to record complaints and address grievances on LPG supply.
Mr Reddy said he would meet Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to address shortages in supply of kerosene and sugar through PDS in the state.
