Law for direct Centre's hand in communal violence control soon

Jaipur, May 28 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal today said the Centre was contemplating enactment of a special law for ensuring Centre's direct and proactive role in communal violence hit areas in states.

Talking to reporters here today, Mr Jaiswal said that the UPA Government had been contemplating tabling of Communal Violancce Prevention Act bill during the monsoon session of Parliament, for the purpose.

He said that the bill, presently being examined by the Standing Committee, would have a provision under which the Home Ministry could directly order deployment of Central para military forces, for limited period, for taking control of the situation in the communal violence-hit area in states.

This provision would be promulgated only in a situation when the Centre had reason to believe that the state government was unable or reluctant to control the situation, he added.

The minister also expressed his concern over the deteriorating situation of communal harmony in Rajasthan and cautioned the state government to take the situation seriously.

Communal harmony had weakened in the state for the past sometime and the state government had not taken the development appropriately, he noted.

He said that both the state government and the people of the state should bewared of the trend and should take all safeguards.

He said that all political parties were required to be sensitive over this issue and avoid tendency of viewing it with a politcal eye.
