Bangalore, May 28 (UNI) Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) Chairman K P Pandey today hinted at taking su-moto decision on power tariff if State Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) failed to submit their Tariff applications to the Commission.

Speaking to newsmen here, Mr Pandey said that the KERC last fixed the power Tariff on the basis of distress year data of 2004 which was still in vogue as ESCOM's have not filed revised tariff application since then, despite state had received good rains in last two years.

He said that following bounty in rains the cost of power generation mainly done through Hydel sources had substantially came down and the power supply companies earned surplus of over Rs 629 crores in last two years. The KERC had directed ESCOMs to create a corpus fund out of the surplus money they have generated and utilise it for consumers benefits, which was not followed, Mr Pandey regretted.

He also said that the state consumers were continuously paying the power tariff which was fixed by the KERC during distress year way back in 2004. "If these companies continue to fail submit fresh Tariff revision the KERC can exercise its su-moto power and reduce the power tariff which would be binding on all" he warned.
