HC adjourns hearing of Shahabuddin's petition
Patna, May 28 (UNI) Patna High Court today adjourned the hearing of the petition of RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin till May 30, official sources here informed.
The RJD MP had filed the petition challenging the life imprisonment awarded to him by a special court of Siwan in connection with a kidnapping case.
A division bench comprising Justices Shiva Kirti Singh and Seema Ali Khan adjourned the hearing of the case on the request of the petitioner's counsel to grant more time.
In his petition, Shahabuddin alleged that the lower court judgement, sentencing him to life imprisonment, was illegal and unwarranted.
He advocated that the lone witness in the case, Sheetal Paswan, had identified him in the court after more than seven years, which should not have been relied upon.
Earlier, on May 8, the lower court of Siwan had sentenced the RJD MP to rigorous life imprisonment in connection with the abduction of CPI(ML)leader Chhote Lal Gupta from Siwan in 1999.
