Ex-UP Minister in judicial custody till June 11

Agra, May 28 (UNI) A local here court today sent former Uttar Pradesh Minister Chaudhary Basheer under judicial custody till June 11 in a murder case.

The stay order on Mr Basheer's arrest ended last Saturday and he surrendered in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court this morning.

Hearing the case, the court rejected the bail application of Mr Basheer and sent him under judicial custody till June 11.

On October, 2003, Kamal Singh was beaten to death during Mantola riots. Later, the deceased's father Babulal had lodged an FIR against Mr Basheer and others.

Later, Mr Basheer had taken shelter of the High Court, which had given a 40 day stay order on his arrest.

Meanwhile, irked over the incident, the Samajwadi Party workers staged a demonstration in Mantola area and forced the shopkeepers to down their shetters. The mob also resorted to stone pelting. However, no one was reported to be wounded.

Meanwhile, a large number of police personnel have been deployed to avoid any fresh violence.

The situation, at present, was said to be under control.
