Dalit woman burnt on refusal to indulge in drug-peddling

Varanasi, May 28 (UNI) A Dalit woman was burnt severely by a drug peddler for refusing to sell narcotic substance in Cantonment area here.

The incident took place late yesterday in Kharboohja Shaheed area, where despite prolonged pressure by a drug peddler Aslam, Lalmani (30) and her husband Samosa Lal refused to sell the narcotic substance, police today said.

The drug peddler along with goons first beat the couple black and blue and later burnt Lalmani after dousing her with kerosene.

Lalmani suffered 60 per cent burns and her husband, who was also injured seriously were rushed to the district hospital, where Lalmani's condition was stated to be critical.

A manhunt has been launched to nab Aslam and aides.
