Court refuses bail to BSP MLA in murder case

Varanasi, May 28 (UNI) The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court here today refused bail to underworld don-turned ruling BSP MLA Sushil Singh in a 2004 murder case.

The BSP MLA from Dhanapur (Chandauli), who had successfully contested the assembly elections from behind the bars, was brought have from the Mirzapur district jail in an ambulance.

Hearing his plea, CJM Anirudh Maurya refused bail to Singh and instead, remanded him to 14-day judicial custody in the Varanasi district jail.

The MLA, also the nephew of mafia don Brijesh Singh, will move a fresh bail application before the sessions court tomorrow, his counsel said.

Another accused Ajay Mardah, in the case pertaining to murder of contractor Sunil Singh in Sigra area here in 2004, had already been granted bail by the sessions court.

After failing to get bail, Singh was taken in the ambulance to the Varanasi District Jail from where he was taken for medical check up to the district hospital, which referred him to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital.

He was later admitted at the special ward of the BHU hospital for treatment of 'burning micturation' (burning sensation while urinating).

District Jail Superintendent (Varanasi) Dadhiram Maurya said after reaching the jail, Singh produced a report of Mirzapur district hospital. Prior to leaving for Varanasi, he was taken to Mirzapur district hospital, where doctors referred him to the district hospital in Varanasi.

CJM Maurya said, keeping the report in mind, he was sent to the district hospital from where the doctors referred him to the BHU hospital.

Singh has already been granted bail in other criminal cases in which he is an accused, including 2006 killing of coal trader in Mau district.

A cash reward of Rs one lakh was announced by the Samajwadi Party government on Singh's head in the murder of the coal trader.

After sustained pressure, Singh had on March 14, surrendered before a Mirzapur court in a case pertaining to altercation with a local youth.

The Mirzapur court, however, had recently granted bail to Singh in the two cases.
