Centre summons Mizoram CM, Home secy on Bru repratriation
Aizawl, May 28 (UNI) The Centre has invited Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Home Secretary C Ropianga to New Delhi to hold a meeting with Union Home MinisterShivraj Patil on May 31 on the Bru repatriation issue.
The Union Home Ministry is likely to ask the state's top officials as to why the Bru refugees in Tripura have still not been repatriated to Mizoram, sources today said.
The Centre is keen on Bru repatriation as the Mizoram Bru Displaced People Forum has been pressuring them for a long time.
Since, the Centre had not released the full amount of the repatration fund, the Bru refugees are finding it difficult to resettle in Mizoram,'' the Home secretary was quoted as saying.
The main problem regarding the resettlement is that while the state government had suggested that the Bru refugees be resettled in different districts, the refugees have insisted that they be placed in a group within Mamit district, bordering Tripura.
The Home Secretary has also made it clear to the Centre that all those who claimed to be refugees could not be repatriated because there were a number of non-Mizo citizens among them, but the Centre urged that those bonafide citizens should be taken back as soon as possible.
