Centre must encourage private sector to set up power plants: Nitish
New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today lamented the ambiguity in the entry of private sector in the power production field and demanded that they should be encouraged to set up power plants in the country.
In his speech at the Chief Ministers' Conference on Power Sector which was read in absentia, Mr Kumar said that private sector be given full freedom to come forward and set up power plants in view of the growing electricity needs of states.
He also demanded that the Centre should take prompt action to set up an atomic power plant in Bihar for which the Atomic Energy Commission has already visited the proposed site and the state government has procured the land and made water facilities available.
Mr Kumar said that the increasing power production in Bihar was a priority of the state government and it was also working to reduce transmission and distribution losses. He sought cooperation from the centre in increasing the power production in the state which suffer from huge energy deficiency.
