Jammu, May 28 (UNI) The BJP today demanded a probe into the 'preventable' death of a youth at the Government Medical College here, who had died after he could not be operated for a blood clot in his head.

"The preventable and tragic death of a 25-year-old youth Naresh Kumar of Simbal camp at the GMC Jammu has exposed the hollowness of the state Government's claims of running the state health facilities to the best,'' party's state Vice President Satish Sharma said, in a statement issued here.

"It must be the only case in the world where the equipment needed to make it possible to perform Neuro-Surgery on the victim was available in the hospital, but out of order," he said.

The deceased succumbed to a head injury because the doctors, who had said that required equipment for operation was not available in the GMC, could not operate him.

The adminstration could not get the equipment repaired, as that would mean end to the lucrative business of private clinics, Mr Sharma alleged.

The BJP leader demanded a thorough probe as to why the equipment was not repaired despite innumerable requests and to see whether there exists a nexus between the hospital authorities and private clinics. He also demanded ex-gratia and a job to at least one member of the victim's family.
