2 more sewerage treatment plants for Dal Lake in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 28 (UNI) To plug the contamination of water and its flow into the already polluted Dal Lake, Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to construct two more Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) at a cost of Rs 10.95 crore.
These plants will be in addition to the already taken up three such projects costing Rs 8.27 crore around the Lake, Minister for Housing and Urban Development Qazi Mohammad Afzal said during his visit to STPs of Hazratbal, Habak and Lam Brain here today.
Mr Afzal said the upcoming STPs would help contain the contamination of the Dal Lake by proper treatment of the sewerage.
The STPs on completion would provide sewerage treatment facility to the waste of 1,85,000 population around the Dal, he said adding in addition, Rs one crore would be spent for construction of a modern dumping site for the sludge coming out of the sewerage treatment plants which would be used as manure for agriculture purposes.
Mr Qazi Afzal conducted extensive tour of various areas around the Dal Lake including Brari Numbal, Baba Demb and Kanikachi alongwith a team of senior officers of Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA), Srinagar Development Authority, UEED and Srinagar Municipal Corporation and took stock of the problems of the people.
He appealed to the people to help in restoring the pristine glory of the lake. He said that the affected people are being rehabilitated in a phased manner. While interacting with the people he said their problems are being looked into.
