Youth Cong to sell rice at APL rate on Monday

Aizawl, May 27 (UNI) The Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress committee has decided to sell rice at rate of Rs 9.50 per kg to poorer section of the society on Monday at Congress Bhavan here.

Congress sources said rice would be sold at 20 kgs per family, and added that the move was to safeguard the poor people from hunger.

The Youth Congress alleged that while the state government had been providing the Bru refugees with more than 850 quintals of rice from the state quota for the last six months, the people of Mizoram were starving due to the rice crisis.

Congress youth activists on Friday stormed the office of Food&Civil Supplies director demanding a special allotment permit of not less than 200 quintals from Zuangtui godown.

Fearing problems food director M Zohmingthangi handed out the demanded allotment permit for 200 quintals, out of which the Congress Youth had purchased 64.50 quintals.
