MP not reeling under severe heat despite 'nautapa'

Bhopal, May 27 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh denizens can heave a sigh of relief, as a sharp rise in temperature is not expected during 'nautapa', the nine days of extreme heat.

Regional meteorological department director D P Dubey said heat condition was more severe in southern and western part of the state as compared to northern and north-eastern part.

Sheopurkala, Satna and Khajuraho recorded highest temperature in the state at 43 degree Celsius.

A sharp rise in mercury was not expected in the coming days courtesy south-western and western winds blowing due to development of monsoon clouds in Kerala. Maximum temperature at most places was hovering at around 40 degrees C.

Mercury would have touched 45 C if the winds would have been blowing from North India.

Mr Dubey said a good monsoon was expected this year.

On the third day of 'nautapa' today, maximum temperature hovered at around 40 degrees C unlike two years back when people braved a temperature of 45 C.

A high of 40.8 C was recorded in Bhopal, followed by 40.2 2 in Indore C, 40 c in Gwalior and 39.7 degrees Celsius in Jabalpur.

Likewise, a maximum temperature of 43 degrees C was recorded in Satna, Khajuraho and Sheopurkala.

Showers accompanied with lightning was predicted in Rewa and Sagar divisions in the next 24 hours.
