Jaya concurs with MK's view on RS polls
Chennai, May 27 (UNI) AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa today concurred with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's view that any contest in the ensuing biennial polls to the Rajya Sabha from the State would lead to horse-trading.
In a brief chat with newspersons at the airport here on her arrival from Nilgiris, she said ''it's correct'', when asked about the Chief Minister's remark in this regard.
Of the six seats, the DMK had decided to contest two seats, while allotting one each to its ally, the Congress and the CPI. The main Opposition AIADMK would contest the remaining two seats.
Mr Karunanidhi's decision of not to field a fifth candidate on behalf of the DPA had averted a contest with the AIADMK in the polls to be held on June 15.
Mr Karunanidhi, whose party heads the DPA in the State, had decided against fielding more than four candidates as it would lead to horse-trading, which was ''against democracy.'' When asked why the DMK was shying away from fielding a fifth candidate as it stood a fair chance of winning in the second preferential voting, Mr Karunanidhi said yesterday ''we wanted to avoid a sensational contest and unnecessarily give room for horse trading.'' ''I will reply later,'' Ms Jayalalithaa said, when asked about the ruling DMK nominating Mr Karunanidhi's poet-daughter Kanimozhi as the Rajya Sabha candidate.
