Chennai, May 27 (UNI) In an incident which is reminiscence of the sensational Navarasu murder case, a 25-year-old girl was brutally killed, with decomposed mutilated parts of her body found stacked in polythene bags at a burial ground here.

The incident came to light yesterday when people living in Aynavaram area found various plastic bags strewn at the burial ground.

They found various body parts, including hand and legs when the bags were opened.

Police, who took up the investigation, confirmed that the body was that of a 25-year-old girl.

Five special teams were formed to crack the case, after they found the torso of the girl, stacked in a gunny bag, from a bush late last night.

The identity of the girl was yet to be ascertained.

Police were probing on all possible angles, including whether the murder was committed somewhere else and the mutilated parts were thrown just to divert the attention, as was done by medico John David, who had killed Navarasu.

The recovery of mutilated body parts of the girl, had sent shivers down the spines of the locals, and had evokeed the memories of the brutal killing of Pon Navarasu, son of former Madras University Vice-Chancellor K Ponnusamy at Annamalai University in Chidambaram in November 1996.

The mutilated body parts and the torso of Navarasu was found in a bus at Tambaram near Chennai, which was about 250 km from Chidambaram.

Medico John David, the hostel-mate of Navarasu, who had committed the murder, was convicted and sentenced to double life term by a trial court in 1998.

However, the Madras High Court, on an appeal by David, had acquitted him of all charges in October 2001. However, the Tamil Nadu government referred a Special Leave petition in the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict and the same was admitted in March 2002.
