Worker's death sparks violence in Jamnagar
Jamnagar, May 26 (UNI) Three policemen were injured in a stone throwing incident by a mob near the Reliance Industries labour colony here.
The violent mob of around 4000 labourers went on rampage and torched a dumper and damaged three others following the death of a 26-year-old worker in a road accident.
The worker, Vijay Jaidev Ugre, died on the spot after the dumper hit him at around 2200 hrs. On hearing of Ugre's death, the other labourers, armed with weapons and incendiary materials, came out and burnt the dumper involved in the accident. The mob also attacked a camp office in the colony and damaged properties worth Rs 7.15 lakh, police said today.
A company of State Reserve Police Force (SRP) was called each from Jamnagar, Khambalia and Lalpur areas for reinforcement and to quell the mob. When policemen confronted the mob, the angry agitators began throwing stones at the police force in which three policemen were injured.
A complaint has been registered against 4,000-odd people for rioting and arson by Meghpor police station.
