Tribal students continue with economic blockade

Imphal, May 26 (UNI) Traffic remained disrupted on the two National Highways number 39 nd 53 following the indefinite blockade imposed yesterday by the All Tribal Students' Union of Manipur (ATSUM).

As a result of which large number of trucks remained stranded at the Manipur-Nagaland border.

Officials said today that the government was providing escort to the trucks to enable their smooth entry into Imphal.

Petroleum products, however, were not distributed properly as most of the oil depots did not supply petrol for the last few days leading to hike in prices of petrol in the black market.

The ATSUM had called the blockade to demand better treatment of tribal students and reservations in educational institutes and recruitment process.
