Treat Kannada as second language in Goa: Deve Gowda
Panaji, May 26 (UNI) Janata Dal(S) supremo and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda today favoured conferring the second language status on Kannada in Goa, where migrant population from the neigbouring Karnataka is dominant.
Interacting with mediapersons here today, he called for stopping repression, suppresion and oppression of the migrant population, which has been contributing to the physical development of Goa.
He hoped all the 11 candidates put up by the party for the June 2 elections to the State Legislative Assembly would win despite police repression.
It might be recalled that he sat on 'dharna' in Old Goa recently protesting the arrest of five of his party functionaries for possessing Rs 9 lakh meant for election expenses.
