Tension in Ichalkaranji over conversion

Kolhapur, May 26 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the powerloom town of Ichalkaranji in the district after eight people embraced Christianity today.

A baptism ceremony was organised at the Nadivesh naka by Christian missionaries, in which 8 people were baptised. This angered right-wing Hindu organisations, whose activists staged demonstrations, resulting in tension, police sources said.

About 80 activists were detained to maintain law and order situation. They were later released, the sources said, adding the situation in the area was under control.
