Lucknow, May 26 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Chandra Bhadra Singh was tonight arrested in the Uttar Pradesh capital in connection with the murder of Sant Gyaneshwar and his disciples near Allahabad early this year.

Mr Singh, the SP MLA from Isauli seat of Sultanpur district, was held by the CB-CID team from Sultanpur at his official residence under Hazratganj police station area here.

Police sources said the MLA was arrested in connection with the killing of Sant Gyaneshwar, in which he and his sibling Monu Singh are the accused.

The arrested SP MLA is being taken by the CB-CID team to Sultanpur.

On May 20 last, two supporters of Mr Singh were allegedly shot dead by some ruling Bahaujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers over an election dispute in Sultanpur.

In February this year, Sant Gyaneshwar and three of his women disciples were shot dead near Allahabad, when they were on way to Varanasi from the Ardh Kumbh Mela in Prayag.

Later, the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government had ordered a CB-CID probe into the case.
