Recovery of explosives continues in UP

Hardoi/Siddharthnagar, May 26 (UNI) Even as a high alert continues in Uttar Pradesh after the May 21 Gorakhpur serial blasts, police have seized a large cache of explosives in Siddharthnagar and Hardoi districts.

Following the Gorakhpur contemporaneous blasts, the internationl border that UP shares with Nepal and all other sensitive places in the state were put on high alert.

According to police, a bomb was found lying in a farm in Hassanpur village under Madhoganj police station area today.

However, the bomb was later defused by police.

Talking to UNI, Superintendent of Police P K Srivastava (Siddharthnagar) said on being tipped-off, a raid was conducted late last night in Naugarh area and 33.5 kg suspected gun powder and other explosives were recovered with the arrest of one Anees.

On interrogation, the accused confessed he had brought the consignment from Lucknow and Gorakhpur, Mr Srivastava informed.

Yesterday, police had recovered 50 kg ammonium nitrate and 1,000 metre magnetic fuse wire in Shankargarh area of Allahabad.

On May 24, a high intensity hand grenade was recovered from the Farrukhbad railway station. Besides, 10 kg suspected gun powder and 20 litres of ammonium nitrate was seized from the second class waiting room on platform no 1 of Faizabad railway station on May 23 -- two days after the triple blasts in Gorakhpur town.
