Ravi against projecting corporate heads as presidential candidates
Kochi, May 26 (UNI) Union Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi today questioned the rationale behind projecting corporate heads as contenders for the Presidency.
Speaking to reporters after a book release function here, he said, ''I don't think the corporate heads can understand the political and social climate of the country as their interests are obviously different. This trend is not good for the democratic framework of the country.'' Mr Ravi said the business houses were building their empire by sourcing money from the society and there was a need to review their social responsibility.
He alleged that a section of the media was trying to project corporate leaders as potential presidential candidates.
However, he maintained that in a democratic set-up, every person had the right of expression.
It may be recalled here that IT giant Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayanamurthy's name was doing the rounds for the President's post.
Earlier, Mr Ravi released a book written by senior scribe N N Satyavratan on journalism.
