Opposition demands CBI inquiry into NREGA in J'khand

Ranchi, May 27 (UNI) Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda today demanded for a CBI inquiry into the alleged discrepancies in implementation of National Rural Employement Gurantee Act (NREGA) in the state.

Talking to reporters Mr Munda, also the Opposition leader, said the Central Employment Gurantee Council (CEGC) members had also marked anomalies in NREGA implementation through a social audit conducted by them.

Mr Munda said the government boasts of distributing more than 23 lakh job cards among the people but only 14 lakh people have got jobs so far.

The team of CEGC members, including noted economist Jean Dreze and social activist Aruna Roy, during the social audit of the NREGA here found that the Act had not been implemented properly.

Mr Munda also alleged that the government had not given any unemployement allowance, which was mandatory according to Act.

Reffering to a recent statement of country's Chief Justice, made during his Jharkhand visit, Mr Munda further said the state government should provide the details of the steps for the uplift of the tribals in the state.

The CJI had said only 20 per cent of the total developmental funds reached to the tribals.
