Mauritius PM lays JSS' foundation stone

New Delhi, May 26 (UNI) Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam today laid the foundation stone for the educational complex of Karnataka-based JSS Academy of Technical Education at Port Louis.

The JSS Academy at Mauritius approved by the Government of Mauritius and affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka has planned the huge educational complex at a cost Rs 60 Crores to be built in two phases in an area of about 8 acres in the heart of Mauritius city.

The JSS Academy initially offered short-term training programmes in the IT sector. With the support extended by the Prime Minister of Mauritius and the Centre, it has become a full-fledged Engineering College offering BE courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Science and Engineering and electronics and communication from the academic year 2006-07.

At the function organised today, Mauritius education minister Mr Dharambeer Gokool said the country was encouraging tertiary education and had introduced a policy for educational reforms.

Minister for Environment, Mauritius Sri Anil Bachoo welcoming the JSS' efforts said value based education was the need of the day and this could be provided only by India, known for its education with human values.

Mr DH Shankaramurty, karnataka minister for higher Education vowed full support of his government to JSS in its ventures in India and abroad.
