Life term for 3 including Gram Pradhan

Mahoba, May 26 (UNI) A local court today awarded life sentence to three persons, including a Gram Pradhan, for strangling a person to death here.

On June 10, 2006, Pushpendra was garrotted over a Gram Panchayat poll dispute in Aari village of Ajnar area.

Later, the deceased's father lodged an FIR against Gram Pradhan Har Govind Tiwari, Ram Singh, Kamta, Maiyadeen, Suresh Kumar, Har Govind Chaubey, Bal Kishen, Vidhya Charan, Sadanand and nine others.

On the basis of substantial evidence and testimony, District and Sessions Judge Sudhir Kumar Saxena convicted the Gram Pradhan, Kamta and Ram Singh, besides slapping a fine of Rs 20,000.

The other accused were acquitted for lack of evidence. The court has decided to provide a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 out of the penalty amount to Pushpendra's widow.
